Mahdi Khalili is a postdoctoral scholar at the Institute of Philosophy, University of Bern, where he works on the project Extending the Scope of Causal Realism. He was previously a visiting fellow at the University of Pittsburgh and has held postdoctoral research positions at the University of Graz and the Institute for Research in Fundamental Sciences (Tehran). He received his PhD in philosophy from VU Amsterdam in 2022.
He teaches regularly at the Institute and has (co-)presented seminars on topics such as trust in science, philosophy of technology, and philosophical issues surrounding large language models. His research interests include history and philosophy of science, philosophy of physics, and philosophical issues in data analysis and machine learning.
His publications have appeared in journals such as Erkenntnis, Philosophy of Science, AI and Ethics, European Journal for Philosophy of Science, Acta Analytica, Perspectives on Science, Topoi, as well as in The Routledge Handbook of Causality and Causal Methods. He has co-edited a special issue on perspectivism and quantum mechanics for Foundations of Physics and is co-editing a special issue on meta-level reflections on the scientific realism debate for Synthese.
